Francis Keppel '38, of New York City was elected President of the Student Council at a meeting of the entire new Council last Friday in University Hall.
Caspar W. Weinberger '38, of San Francisco, was elected Treasurer of the Council for 1937-38 at the same meeting, and Wiley E. Mayne '38, of Sanborn, Iowa was named Secretary for the same term.
John B. Bowditch '37, retiring Council President, presided at the final meeting until the election of Keppel. Bowditch read the reports of Walter H. Page 2nd '37, retiring Treasurer, and George G. Hedblom '37, retiring Secretary, and then delivered his own report on the activities of the Council during his term. It was the first time a group of Council officers have presented reports at the end of their terms.
After his election Keppel paid tribute to Bowditch's "great contribution to the University during his term", and the Council passed a rising vote of thanks to their outgoing president. Election of the other officers closed the meeting, the last to be held this term.
Keppel was Chairman of the Red Book in his Freshman year, and for the past two years has been the upperclassman handling Freshman affairs. He is also Chairman of the Eliot House Committee and was a member of the Council last year.
