Led by George Lowman from the right forward position, the Varsity basketball team Saturday evening swamped a hard fighting Princeton quintet, 52-38. Sinking eight field goals and two foul throws, Lowman accounted for 18 of the Crimson's point gaining a clear title to high scoring honors for the evening.
During the first quarter it appeared as if it were going to be a close game, Verne Struck and Johnny Vruwink matching basket for basket, until the score stood at nine-all. Lowman then went into action to score seven points while the Tiger five was held to four. Later the Crimson's lead was stretched to eight points, but at the half it was again cut to a slim 23-21 point lead.
Princeton had difficulty in making their offense click in the second half; while the Feslermen led by Lowman, Struck, and White, a starter Saturday evening, piled up an imposing lead before the period was half over. With their team trailing 43-29 Jack Appel and Ralph Scofield of Princeton combined to effect a six point rally but Vruwink who accounted for four goals the visiting team again pulled away.
High scorer for the Tigers was Johnny Vruwink, who accounted for four goals and three fouls, while Jack Appel was only a step behind with ten points to his credit.
A scrappy Crimson Jayvee team crushed Newport, Y.M.C.A. under a score of 40-32, Saturday afternoon at the Indoor Athletic Building. Dick Wills and Bob Green tallied 25 of the home team's points, while Johnson led the losers with 12 points.
