FRESHMAN CLASS CHANGES MADE BY STUDENT COUNCIL

As a result of recommendations included in the report submitted by the Freshman Confidential Guide Committee on May 22, a new Freshman Class Fund, a Freshman Class Scholarship, and a modified Red Book were established on Friday by vote of the New Student Council. At the same time Francis Keppel '38 was made Student Councilman in charge of Freshman a fairs for next year.

New Class Fund

The new Class Fund, which will amount to $150, will be taken out of the profits made by the 1939 Red Book. It will be turned over to Kendric N. Marshall, instructor in Government and faculty man in charge of Freshman affairs, for use by next year's Freshmen for minor expenses incurred during the year. This will take care of such items as expenses in running the Union Committee, tournaments held in the Union, and any other small items which may come up during the year. Profits made by 1940 dances or the 1940 Red Book will be turned back into this fund at the close of the year so that it may be handed on intact to the Class of 1941.

Freshman Scholarship

The residue of the profits made this year by the Red Book, amounting to over $500 in all, will be turned over to the Council. Of this amount $200 will be given as a scholarship next year to some member of the Class of 1939. The remainder will be kept in the Council's budget to guarantee the 1940 Red Book Committee.

Under a new plan, the 1940 Red Book Chairman will be chosen early next fall. He will immediately start work on the compilation of a pamphlet which will include the pictures, names, and addresses of all new Freshmen. This pamphlet will be ready for distribution before Christmas, and will be sold on a combination subscription rate which will give buyers a copy of the regular Red Book which will be published in the Spring.

Keppel will be in charge of this new Red Book, and he will be assisted by Robert M. Bunker '39, this Year's Red Book Chairman and Jack D. Andrews '39, business manager of the Red Book and Chairman of the Confidential Guide Committee.
