Aspiring Freshman orators will gather in the Upper Common Room of the Union next Monday night at 7 o'clock for the tryouts for the debates with Yale and Princeton.
Each competitor should prepare a five-minute speech on either side of the subject: Resolved, That dictatorship is better suited than democracy to cure the ills of the world. All Freshmen in good standing are eligible.
The best speaker in these trials will be awarded the Coolidge debating prize of $25. This prize was established in 1899 by the gift of T. Jefferson Coolidge, a member of the Class of 1850. It was first awarded in 1911.
