The announcement of the first of the "National" scholarships of the 300th Anniversary fund should be of interest to the University. A donation of $50,000 by Mrs. George Chase Christian of Minneapolis in memory of her husband, has enabled the corporation to provide an annual scholarship for students from the state of Minnesota for the purpose of study in one of the graduate schools.
One of the main purposes of the Anniversary fund has been the attempt to provide such an opportunity for a student from every state in the Union. This goal may eventually be reached through the generosity and interest of the friends of the University. Mrs. Christian's gift has started this highly commendable movement, and will undoubtedly result in similar tokens of well-wishing front the great body of Harvard graduates and admirers. With this interest under way, the scheme for 48 National scholarships may become a reality in the very near future.
