Competing in its first match of the year, the Crimson yearling boxing team last night defeated the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Freshmen by a score of 5 to 3.
The bouts were almost uniformly high in calibre; much speed was displayed and a good deal of hard punching was in evidence. The Freshmen showed great potentialities and the match was altogether a very promising first appearance.
Although few fighters of relatively conspicuous merit could be picked from the generally high standard of the '39 squad, perhaps the neatest performance last night was Richardson's knockout of Ryan of M.I.T. in the third round in the 135-pound class.
The Freshmen will have only one more home appearance this year before they meet Yale at New Haven. This match will be with the Shirley School, next Friday night at 8 o'clock in the Indoor Athletic Building.
