Proudly put on display at the entrance of the Main Reading Room of Widener Library yesterday was the most unique of the many congratulatory letters and certificates received by the University during the Tercentenary Celebration.
From a Japanese University, this letter of praise in contained in an oblong, black box lined with gold, and is in the form of an ancient Roman scroll. Only a portion of the document, which appears to be several feet long, is displayed.
Officials of the Library evidently consider the scroll of singular importance, for they have given it a case all by itself, and artistic principles of decoration are carefully observed so as to set it off to the best advantage.
