SOCKS, SHIRTS AND TIES MOVE IN STYLE TREND TOWARD BRIGHTER COLORS IN MODERN PATTERNS

There are three things which we poor men have the opportunity of varying in our otherwise modest style of outfitting. They are our shirts, neckwear, and socks. And with the New Deal strongly entrenched for another four years, we look for new trends in these articles of sartorial relief, and find them in prospect this season in new patterns, tones and styles which please the eye of the wearer and the beholder.

Slowly but surely the trend in neckwear changes from year to year, and the predominating shift for the forthcoming year seems to be from the neat, all-over patterns of last season to larger and more clear spaced designs. Stripes are going to be worn in the greatest number this season decause of the harmony they bring with either a plain suit or a striped one. Rep Ties, distinguished by their ribbed surface, are favorites, while the Macclesfield, always a winter favorite is still proper for more formal town suits. Plain color knits and wool ties which go so well with the tweed and shetland suits will also be leading numbers. Blues and reds are taking the lead in the color line with an increasing interest in green. Wine is the most versatile color combining with almost any color suit.

6 x 3 Ribbed Wool Hose, checks and cross striped effects are destined to be worn in great numbers this season. Brightly patterned Argyles and Checks always are popular for winter wear.

Shirts are definite in their style for this season. The neckband shirt with white double cuffs has already proven to be the outstanding shirt of this season for town wear.

The tabless tab collar in candy stripes and in forest tone plain colors are also on the spot this coming winter.

Button-Down Collars are like the years--they go on forever. Colorful striped and checked patterns lend themselves to the Button-Down Collar shirt, and of course a full stock of plain color shirts in all the different collar styles are essential in any man's wardrobe.
