Climaxing their season in a blaze of glory, the Jayvees conquered their Eli opponents this afternoon on the Anthony Thompson field, 13-0. Playing a wide open game, the Crimson eleven scored on a long pass from Kelly to Houghton in the second period and a long run of Bob Burnett's in the final frame.
For the first ten minutes of play the teams seemed evenly matched, neither being able to advance the ball beyond the 30-yard line. Then the Harvard offense began to click, and when the teams changed ends, the ball rested three yards from the Yale goal.
But the Elis held for downs, and kicked out of danger. This time, however, a determined series of rushes, ending with the Kelly-Houghton pass, drew the first blood. The extra point was missed.
No scoring was done in the third period, but early in the fourth Burnett ploughed through the line for 15 yards and a touchdown. Fred Jerome kicked the point.
Shortly after this score, Yale made her only serious threat on the Crimson goal. A blocked kick resulted in their possession of the ball on the 3-yard line. There the Jayvee defense became airtight, and the ball was captured on downs. Yale's subsequent attempts to pierce the secondary with passes usually ended in interceptions, and Coach Art Lane was given an opportunity to inject letter-earning substitutions.
Charlie Houghton, Bob Burnett and Prouty starred in the backfield, while Captain Knapp and Schmidt turned in excellent line performances. Dan Cheever started at center for Ric Hedblom, who was suffering from an injury, but Hedblom was able to play for a few minutes. During the last half, the Varsity gridmen watched the game.
