On recommendation of their school headmasters, 14 graduates of preparatory schools in New England have been awarded prize scholarships totaling $3,150 for their Freshman year.

These awards, established in 1930, are made in recognition of scholastic attainment and intellectual promise without regard for the student's financial need, and the stipends therefore vary from an honorary basis to a maximum of $500.

The students, and their schools, are: Ralph H. Cutler Jr., of Morristown, New Jersey, Kent; Calvin H. Elliott Jr., of Hartford, Connecticut, St. George's; Tudor Gardiner, of Boston, Groton; James McK. Gillespie, of Andover, Phillips Academy, Andover; Whedon Johnson, of Syracuse, New York, Hill; John A. King Jr., of Lake Forest, Illinois, Middlesex; Thomas E. Lawrence, of Concord, Milton;

David N. Mills, of Grosse Pointe, Michigan, Choate; Gardner C. Quarton, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Exeter; William P. Sockman, of New York City, Hill; Augustus W. Soule Jr., of Brookline, St. Paul's; Charles G. Swain, of Wollaston, Thayer; Charles F. Whiting Jr., of Cambridge, Belmont Hill; and Masao Yatsuhashi, of Brookline, Country Day School of Boston.
