Harvard and Manhattan trackmen struggle for supremacy in the Madison Square Garden tonight, with Manhattan given an edge over Eddie Farrell's runners. Fielding a powerful squad of runners and a pole-vaulting combination second to none in the country, the Crimson's weakness in weight events may be the deciding factor.
In mile, hurdles, relay, and high jump, each college pits the stars of its team against the other's. Green in the 50-meter hurdles will face Pessoni of Manhattan as his chief opponent in a record breaking race.
Scheu in the mile, though certain of defeat by Venzke, will find his hardest competition for second place in the 1500-meter in Bill Ray of Manhattan. If Bob Hall is able to compete in the high jump, he will be matched against Manahattan's Johnny Thompson, who cleared the bar in the Prout Games at 6:2, the same height attained by Hall a week earlier.
In the 3200-meter relay, Eddie Farrell claims to have a team which is good to break eight minutes, though past performances scarcely warrant this prediction. If they do break eight minutes, however, the anchor man will find himself sprinting against Manhattan's baton carrier.
Outside of these events, Harvard's strength lies in her quartet of vaulters and her broad jumpers.
