Carley Wins Closest Race of Narrow Comp Eliminations

By edging out Courad C. Jamison '34 in the first heat of the narrow comp eliminations yesterday, John A. Carley '36 provided the highlight of the afternoon races, and won a place in the finals to be run Friday.

The best time of the trials was turned in by Frank B. Lawson '36, who was clocked at three minutes, 55 4-5 seconds. Because of his close second in this heat, Arthur H. Rice, III '36 was given a place in the finals.

In the broad comps. Albert G.Hale '36 led the time trials, covering the half-mile course in 4 minutes, 10 4-5 seconds. Also qualifying for the finals were John F.Kirk IGB, Robert S. Chafee '36, and John B. Bayley '37.

Trials in the novice singles will be held this afternoon. Three heats of four men each will be rowed at 2.30; 2.45, and 3 o'clock over the half-mile downstream course.
