Defeating Tufts by the impressive score of 10 to 2, the Varsity lacrosse team scored its first victory of the year yesterday afternoon.
Playing a much better all around game than it has exhibited at any time this season, the attack led by William R. Lessig '34 and John S. England '35 surged down the field time and again to score readily. Captain Eddy J. Rogers '34 and John D. Whittemore '36, who continually broke up the Tufts attack, proved themselves solid rocks in the defense positions.
Though the score might seem to belie the fact, the work of the Tuft's goalie, McArdle, was praiseworthy, as he made numerous spectacular stops. Both of Tuft's goals were made by Breachen, playing at inhome for the visitors.
The next game for the Varsity is with Boston University tomorrow afternoon. At the same time, the Junior Varsity travels to Andover. The first game for the Freshman lacrosse team is next Wednesday afternoon, at which time they will encounter the Tufts 1937 team.
The summary: Substitutions: Harvard Warwick, Littlefield, Allen, Bosworth, Howard, Fields, Matticks, Lottman, Forbush, Rosenburg. Tufts: Versakus, Lugbaum, Hubbard, J. Kaup, Pottrois, Kulesis, Brotherstone. Goals--Harvard: Lessig 4, England 3, Howard, Matticks, Littlefield. Tufts: Breachen 2.
