PACKARD OPENS POETRY READING COMPETITION

A competition in reading poetry will be held at Harvard in preparation for an intercollegiate poetry reading at Vassar it was announced last night by Frederick C. Packard, Jr. '20, assistant professor of Public Speaking. The winners of the Harvard competition, which will be held on Wednesday, April 18, in Holden Chapel will be sent to the intercollegiate reading at Vassar. Transportation to Poughkeepsie and lodging will be provided free of charge.

Every year a competition is held here, and a group of Harvard and Radcliffe students are selected to go to the intercollegiate meeting. The purpose of the contest and meeting is to foster an interest in poetry through good reading of verse.

Those desiring to enter the competition for places on the Harvard-Radcliffe delegation should communicate with Professor Packard at Holden Chapel before 2 o'clock on April 18, the time at which the competition will be held. Each competitor will read for six minutes and the selections read may be either one long poem or several short selections. The Vassar meeting will be held on Saturday, May 12. On Sunday some of the readers will broadcast from New York City.
