Capturing two first places S. Mercer Moorman '37 yesterday swept the Freshman Intramural Swimming Championship Meet held in the pool of the New Indoor Athletic Building. Only those swimmers who have not yet won their numerals were eligible to compete.
Francis D. Moorman '37, Robert C. Murphy '37, Karl S. Tenney '37, and William H. Cann '37 all tied for second honors each turning in one first and one second place. Kenneth B. Hodson '37, victorious in the 100 yard breaststroke, took third place.
The 50 yard free style was the outstanding event of the afternoon. Mercer Moorman finishing in the fast time of 25.1 seconds. At no time in the race was he pressed by his nearest opponent, Gilbert M. Kotzen '37.
The major upset of the meet was Francis Moorman's defeat by Murphy in the 150 yard medley event. Although Murphy was considered a good chance to show in the medley, few thought that he would beat out Moorman. Many followers of the Crimson mermen feel that the results of the Yale meet would have been more favorable to Harvard if the Moormans had not been eliminated by eligibility rules.
