RELAY TEAM GAINS NEW YALE-HARVARD TROPHY

Francis V. O'Brien Cup Won by Crimson Runners at B.A.A. Meet--Dubiel Beats Freshman Pole Vault Record

Harvard relay teams turned in very creditable performances at the 45th Annual B.A.A. games Saturday evening, and brought home a stunning new trophy known as the Francis J. O'Brien Trophy, which is to be given annually to the winner of the Yale-Harvard varsity one-mile relay race. The Crimson quartet of Locke, Dorman, White and Captain Morse ran smoothly, in the time of 3 min. 28 2-5 seconds and were not once headed. Moreover the Freshman Mile Relay team smothered a Yale Freshman quartet in most efficient fashion and their time for the distance was 3 min. 36 4-5 seconds. However the Two Mile relay team of crack middle distance runners in the Intercollegiate Varsity race over this distance was nosed out at the finish by a quartet from Maine, though the defeat was in some sense due to the fact that Johnny White and Captain Morse both had run key positions in the Yale race.

One of the surprises saw Dick Hayes, Johnny Hayes and Milton Green qualify in the preliminary heats against highly fouted competitors and all reach the final heat of the 45 Yard High Hurdles. In the Pole Vault E. C. Dubiel '37 broke the standing Harvard Freshman record in this event, by more than eight inches. His vault measured 13 feet 2 1-4 inches as compared with the old record of 12 feet 6 inches.
