To the Editor of the CRIMSON:

The editorial in yesterday's CRIMSON recommending that future Ivy. Orators be chosen by competition was much to the point, but it hardly scratched the surface in suggesting necessary reforms. All Senior offices must be filled by men thoroughly qualified for their jobs. Professor Hillyer must choose the Calse Poet, Mr. Shattuck the Class Treasurer, and Dr. Walsh the Chorister. And what of the Marshals? Obviously they must be men selected by Mr. Fradd for their duties in standing on the platform at Commencement.

In the selection of Ivy Orator, we must go further. Not only must he be a man naturally fitted for making a humorous speech, but he must be trained to the point of highest efficiency in a cram school for brainless clowning. For professor I nominate the heeler who wrote the CRIMSON editorial board. I have failed. It is impossible to carry the jest further than you have already carried it in yesterday's editorial. The system of elections that has chosen for Ivy Orator such men as Loftus Becker, Stephen Stackpole, and Vincent Palmer needs no improvements. W. H. Lewis, Jr. '35.

(Ed. Note Although still maintaining that the office of Ivy Orator requires a special ability not fostered by any existing undergraduate activity, the CRIMSON wishes to correct the impression that yesterday's editorial was directed at any one individual.)
