Denied Winter Campus Housing, International Students Scramble to Find Alternative Options
Eight hundred questionnaires were distributed yesterday to the commuting students of Harvard in an effort to find out their attitude toward the proposed Commuters' House and what financial support they will be able to give the project. The Investigation Committee appointed by Brooks House believes that if a large majority of the commuters are able to contribute ten dollars each, it will be possible to finance the new headquarters successfully with little or no help from other sources.
Preliminary returns from the questionnaire indicate that the commuters are in full sympathy with the undertaking and will be able to give it the necessary financial support.
The questionnaire in full is given below.
1. Are you satisfied with the present facilities at Harvard for men living at home?
2. As a commuter, do you use the facilities of Phillips Brooks House?
3. If the aforementioned plan were adopted with all these added facilities, would you be willing to pay ten dollars ($10) toward the maintenance and use of the House for the whole year?
4. If you would not desire to participate in such an arrangement would your reason be that
a. You are adequately provided for at present?
b. You do not feel that you would find such arrangement suitable?
c. Some other reason of your own? If so, please state.
5. What constructive suggestions have you as to meals, study rooms, social functions, commuter committees, participation in undergraduate activities, etc?
