Denied Winter Campus Housing, International Students Scramble to Find Alternative Options
Boxing will officially begin next Monday although informal classes have been held for some time. Coach Lamar expects a large squad to report as boxing has greatly increased in popularity of late and is considered one of the most promising winter sports.
Of the eight men who started against Yale last year only two are returning, William A. Smith '36 in the 175 pound class and Peter Ward '36 in the 135 pound. Besides these two veterans, who are co-captains, James L. Kunen '36 is also returning. All three men reached the semi-finals of the Intercollegiate Boxing Championship last year. Among the promising Sophomores are Peter B. Olney, captain of last year's Freshman team, Edgar S. Davis, winner of the University Championship last year, James P. Kostarolos, Frederick B. Taylor, Jr. and Garrow T. Gear, Jr., all undefeated last year.
Regular Practice
Practice will be held on every day except Saturday for Freshmen and beginners, from 2 o'clock until 3, from 3 to 4 and from 5 to 6. Coach Lamar says that all men who come out will probably be able to box in at least one bout even if they do not make the team and encourages all who are interested in boxing to see him. Experience is not necessary as all now men start at scratch. The following schedule has been arranged for the Varsity this year: Dec. 15, M. I. T.; Jan. 12, Virginia at Charlottesville; Feb. 9, Springfield; Feb. 16, Army at West Point; Feb. 22, Pennsylvania; March 2, U. S. Coast Guard at New London, and Dec. 9, Yale.
