Roger B. Merriman '96, Gurney Professor of History and Political Science, and Joseph H. Beale, Royall Professor of Law, will speak at the annual dinner of the Harvard Memorial Society which will he held in he upper common room of Adams House on Thursday, November 8 at 6.30 o'clock. Samuel E. Morison, Professor of History, will act as toastmaster. Guests of honor will be Jerome D. Greene, Secretary to the Corporation and Director of the Tercontenary, and Edward K. Rand, Pope Professor of Latin. Herbert M. Irwin, Jr. '37, President of the Society will set forth the aims and purposes of the society, and present the shingles to the members.
The dinners is to be held in the style of the old high table at the College Commons of the colonial period. Old songs will be sung, as well as the modern college songs, ancient customs observed, and the colonial silver used.
The Charles William Eliot plaque is expected to be cast by this time and to be presented to the Society at the dinner.
As a place for working on the room lists, Room K in Widener Library has been put at the disposal of the Society. Two hours of work on the lists are required from a member of the Society before he receives his shingle.
The Society was founded in 1895 by eight members of the Class who wanted "to perpetuate the traditions of the past." During the War, however, a diminution of enthusiasm forced the group to disband. It was not until last year when several members of the Class of 1937 became interested in he organization that it was revived.
