The Bruce Finlay Vanderveer Trophy, given anonymously in memory of the late Bruce Finlay Vanderveer '35, who was captain of the 1932 Harvard Freshman crew, has been accepted by the committee on the regulation of Athletic Sports.

The trophy is to be awarded annually at Red Top to the outstanding man of the first year crew. A committee of three men, consisting of the Varsity coach, the Freshman coach, and the winner of the previous year's award is to vote for the recipient of the trophy. This year the Varsity crew captain, Malcolm Bancroft '33, will vote with Varsity Coach Whiteside and Freshman Coach Haines.

Vanderveer was the son of S. L. Vanderveer of Great Neck, L. I. He prepared for Harvard at Mercersburg Academy and Stony Brook School and entered College with the class of 1935. In the fall of 1931 he rowed with the inexperienced Freshman crew. His previous athletic participation included swimming at Mercersburg Academy and football at Stony Brook School. He made his Freshmen crew rowing number six, and was elected captain. He met his death in an automobile accident last summer.
