TENNIS AND SWIMMING MOST POPULAR FRESHMAN SPORTS

Singles Third, While Rugby and Fencing Have Gained in Numbers

Due to the increase in the enrolment of the Freshman class the number of participants in compulsory exercise has increased by 128 but the sports chosen held their relative place for the most part.

Tennis and swimming respectively retain first and second place in the number of Freshmen electing them while crew and singles have reversed their positions so that singles are new the third most popular sport. Except for this change the list remains practically the same except for Rugby, the adherents to which have dropped from 14 to four and fencing which has gained six to a present total of 13.

The total list is as follows: tennis, 237; swimming, 196; singles, 168; crew, 117; track, 92; baseball, 68; handball, 30; increase, 26; gymnasium, 15; golf, 14; fencing, 13; Miscellaneous, 13; polo, 5; rugby, 4; total, 998.
