USE Of UNION LIBRARY SHOWS LARGE INCREASE

LEIGHTON PICKS COMMITTEE TO BUY SCIENTIFIC BOOKS

The use of both the Union libraries, Dean Delmar Leighton today announced, has shown a considerable increase over last year. During September and October of this year an attendance of 5980 has been recorded in the main reading room. During the same period last year the number was 5248. This constitutes an average increase of 19 each day.

In the History and Government room the attendance has been 6333 this year as compared to 4633 last year. This makes an average increase of 50 persons per day.

In the near future a group of Freshmen who have shown outstanding ability in English will be invited to sit in with the faculty committee which selects books. This committee, which has already held one meeting this year, is composed of Charles T. Copeland '82, Boylston Professor of Rhetoric and Oratory, Emeritus, George H. Chase '96, Dean of the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences, James B. Munn '12, Professor of English, Delmar Leighton '17, Dean of Freshmen, Wilbur J. Bender '27, Assistant Dean of Harvard College, and Lyman H. Butterfield, Instructor in English.

Heretofore the Freshman libraries have been decidedly lacking in scientific works, and in order to remedy this there is now a committee for the selection of scientific books. This committee consists of Dean Delmar Leighton, Assistant Dean Wilbur J. Bender, and six members of scientific departments in the University.
