"Honesty is the first prerequisite of Boston politics," said Mayor-elect Frederick W. Mansfield of Boston in an interview with the CRIMSON last night. "My administration will redeem the fair name and credit of the city of Boston and give the city what it most needs, an honest administration. Boston affairs will be administered to the best interests of all the citizens with fair treatment for every one.
"Honest officials using honest methods are Boston's only salvation. Young men, college students and graduates, are greatly needed to help clean up the corruption and graft in present day politics. Young blood, with new ideas, would promote the general welfare of all."
The mayor-elect would give no definite notice as to policies when in office both because of and until the recount and until he has a chance to see at first hand the conditions surrounding him when he enters office. However, he did say, "I shall do my utmost to fulfill my party pledges of reduction of taxes, full value to the taxpayers for their taxes, earnest and capable men for department heads, and special observance of the laws regulating advertising of contracts, prohibiting splitting of contracts and collusive bidding. These last evils must be stamped out. I shall try to eliminate land grabs and the payment of excessive prices for land taken by the city. I refuse to tolerate bond monopolies."
