Preliminary Trials in Fall Sculling Regatta Are Started

Qualifying Heats in Wherry and Broad Comp Races Held

At the opening of the fall sculling regatta yesterday afternoon, preliminary trials in the wherry and broad comp races were rowed on the downstream course. In the wherry race, four-heats were held, the first man in each heat qualifying for the final to be held on Friday. Two heats were held in the broad comp race, with the first two men in each heat gaining a place in the finals.

The summaries:

Half-mile wherry race: First heat, D. F. Mowery, Jr. '37 (4:15); second heat, Frederick C. Lawton '36 (4:30); third heat, L. W. Mather '37 (4:17); fourth heat, R. P. French '37 (4:35).

Half-mile broad comp race: First heat, Albert G. Hale '36 (3:57 1-2); P. H. Lombard '37; second heat, W. R. Roemer '37 (3:45); Harrison D. Smith '35.
