RUGBY TEAM UPSETS ORANGE AND BLACK IN INITIAL MEETING

University Players Run Up Nine Points Before Any Princeton Score--Potter, Oppenheimer, Schwyzer Star

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Springing the surprise upset of the rugby season so far in the East, the University team trampled the hitherto undefeated Tigers in the dust in the first meeting of the two rivals last Saturday in Cambridge. The game finished as a 15 to 3 victory for Harvard.

The Crimson players although handicapped by the loss of both Captain Cabot and Hardy, ran up a nine point lead in the first half, aided by a following wind, and Princeton was able to gain only three points during the remainder of the game.

Three Harvard Trys

Potter, Oppenheimer, and Schwyzer were responsible for the three Harvard trys, while Meiklejohn scored on two penalty kicks, but the teamwork deserved more praise than any particular individual. Whitney and Watt showed some fine defensive work, particularly in the second half. Lomax was taken out at the beginning of the second half with an injured back.

Prospects are now considered brighter in regard to Harvard's chances of taking the Eastern crown. Forced somewhat into the background by their defeat at the hands of the New York aggregation, which won last year's championship, the Harvard players have put themselves well in the running for that honor by Saturday's victory. Second games will be held both with Princeton and the New York club.

The summary is as follows:

Score--Harvard 15, Princeton 3. Trys--Potter Oppenheimer, Schwyzer. Penalty goal--Meiklejohn 2, Fanshawe. Referee--M. E. Bothner. Time of halves--30 min.
