HARVARD NINE TO PLAY FIRST HOME BALL GAME TODAY

Team That Was Defeated on Friday by Pennsylvania Will Start--Use Two Substitute Pitchers

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

After suffering a freak defeat at the hands of the Pennsylvania ball-tossers on Friday, the University baseball team encounters Boston University today on Soldiers Field for the first home game of the season.

Same Lineup as Friday

Neither team has been able to take advantage of the outdoor diamonds much as yet, but as Harvard goes into today's contest with the experience of one game behind it, while Boston University has not yet encountered any opposition, the Crimson nine is slightly favored. Harvard will start with the same line-up as used against Pennsylvania last Friday, but it is not likely that Charles Devens '33 the first-string twirler, will pitch more than a few innings at the end of the game, allowing H. W. Taylor '33 and E. D. W. Sprague '32 to do the greater part of the pitching of the innings.

Lacks Hitting Ability

The great weakness of the University nine is that it lacks hitting ability. This was shown all too clearly in the game on Friday when the Crimson batmen were able to secure only one hit in the entire game, and it is doubtful of the few days of practice since then have served to improve the Harvard sackmen's work at the plate. The battery staff is all that can be desired, and the University squad is able to put a good defensive team on the diamond, but in order to have anything but a mediocre season Coach Mitchell must give his players batting punch
