Opening the season for fielding practice, over 50 candidates for the University team reported yesterday afternoon in the Briggs Cage to Coach F. G. Mitchell for two hours of strenuous batting and fielding.

Freshmen and University battery-men have been warming up during the past week and will start practice games in the near future. The size of the squad is no improvement over previous years although when the hockey and basketball season ends it will be increased. John Ware, Jr. '34, Nathaniel Ware '34, W. R. Sutcliffe '34, and W. B. Wood, Jr. '32 are expected to come out at that time.

Freshman fielders will report next Monday at the cage for first practice. As soon as weather will permit the laying out of diamonds on Soldiers Field, practice will be held outdoors. Last year the team went outdoors about the middle of March, three weeks before the first scheduled game.
