STUDIO PLAYERS WILL GIVE "UNCLE VANYA"

In cooperation with the Studio Players, the Harvard Dramatic Club will offer its members and patrons a private preview of "Uncle Vanaya" by Checkov at the Rogers building on Monday evening, February 22, at 8.15 o'clock. The public opening of the play will be on Tuesday, February 23, in 'Brattle Hall.

The performance, because of the exceptional advantages offered by the experimental theater developed here in Cambridge by Mr. A. R. Lovejoy and A. P. Segal of the Cambridge School of the Drama will be of a more artistically dramatic nature than that in Brattle Hall. The limited capacity and intimate contact of the audience with the players allows the audience to put itself more easily into the play's atmosphere. It is under such conditions that the playwright Checkov achieves his greatest effects.

The Studio Players are gathered from the company and school of Eve Le Gallienne's New York Civic Repertory Theatre. They have firmly established their reputation as an organization of exceptional worth by two productions which they gave in Brattle Hall at an earlier date. One of these was G. Bernard Shaw's "Great Catherine" and the other Ibsen's "When We Dead Awake." Both were exceptionally well performed.

"Uncle Vanya" was given last year by the Theatre Guild in New York at the Shubert Theatre and was produced by Jed Harris. Lillian Gish was starred in the part of Helens and Eugene Powers in the role of Alexander Serebrakoff.

The Studio Players have long wanted to act in the Rogers building but not until the Dramatic Club took over the building have they had the opportunity. The Rogers building houses one of the world's best experimental theaters and possesses exceptional lighting facilities.
