FIVE HOUSES WILL HOLD SMOKERS TO HEAR FINAL VOTE

In addition to the announcement of election returns which eleven merchants in Harvard Square are sponsoring through the CRIMSON tonight, smokers lasting until dawn are being conducted in five Houses and the Freshman Union. Since the news came out that Leverett was planning an all night meeting for the House members to listen in on returns, Lowell, Kirkland, Eliot, and Adams have also arranged to have radios in the common room and will serve refreshments. In the Union the radio in the upstairs room will be kept going but there will be no free cider or smokes.

Arrangements for Broadcast

During the morning and afternoon the control room for the announcements will be set up in the Coop Building, and six powerful projectors which will flood the Square with sound from 8.30 o'clock until long after midnight will be installed on the Coop balcony. A direct wire will be run to the CRIMSON News Room from The Coop headquarters where the results will be gathered from many radio stations throughout the country. In the first extra edition of the CRIMSON which will appear shortly after nine o'clock this evening, the early returns on the presidential elections will be given together with the almost complete figures on the Ely-Youngman contest. In the edition which will contain the votes counted up to 10.30, prominent Republican and Democratic professors will offer their interpretation of the trends indicated. For the final editions appearing with the 1 and 4 o'clock returns, there will also be comments by political authorities.

The Coop is donating the use of its building for placing the sound projectors which will carry the announcements to crowds in the Square.

This is the first time that the CRIMSON has sponsored the broadcast of returns in any presidential election or has published extras on the night of the election.

Although the absolutely final returns will not be in until the next day it is expected that at 4 o'clock the outcome of the election will be surely known.HERBERT HOOVER, Franklin D. Roosevelt, and Norman Thomas, principal candidates for presidency in today's election.
