Pescosolido To Pick Man To Represent Community Students on Interhouse Committee

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

At a meeting of the Inter-House Athletic Committee held yesterday, a resolution was passed establishing Phillips Brooks House as the nominal athletic headquarters of all upperclassmen not residing in one of the seven Houses. The new plan of commuter-athletics will go into effect immediately, and the former system of Rambler teams will be automatically discontinued.

The first step on the new program will be the appointment by C. A. Pescosolido '34, commuter representative on the Student Council, of one man to represent the non-resident upperclassmen on the inter-House Athletic Committee. Following his appointment, this representative will choose other men to take charge of the various Phillips Brooks House athletics teams, in accordance with the system previously devised for the seven houses. More than 600 upperclassmen are non-residents of the Houses, but as only 36 per cent of this number engage in college athletics, the new plan will add approximately the equivalent of one House.

The main change from the old system of Rambler teams is that, under the new plan, the various teams of non residents, bearing the name Phillips Brooks House, may participate in the inter-House championship competitions on the same basis as any of the other seven Houses. They are, likewise, entitled to any cups or awards, which they may win. In addition to using the name Phillips Brooks House as a sort of legalizing machine, the commuters will still have the use of a room in the building itself, where for the last few years they have gathered in their free time, and have eaten their lunches. The resolution passed yesterday had been up for discussion four times previously, once this fall, and three times last spring. Prior to its final passage by the inter-House Athletic Committee, the bill had been approved by both the masters of the various Houses and the Phillips Brooks House Cabinet.
