MILE RELAY TEAM TAKES A SECOND IN PENN RACES

GREATER BOSTON MEET SLATED FOR SATURDAY

An unexpectedly powerful showing by the Crimson one-mile quartet in pressing the record-breaking Penn, winners and a fast four-mile relay, with fine individual performances by Dodge, Estes, Cobb, Hallowell, and Record, marked Harvard's participation in the closing day of the Penn Relays on Franklin Field Saturday afternoon. "Very good relays, in view of the conditions," was Coach Farrell's comments.

Record, set back a yard for a false start on the first leg of the mile went from fourth place to second, but was passed by a Penn runner near the end. The Crimson held third place until the last leg, when Dodge nipped the Buckeye anchor man to finish second with the remarkable time of 48 4-5 seconds for his quarter. Penn's quartet equalled the 1915 mark of 3 min., 18 sec.

Estes, Crimson lead-off man in the four-mile relay, handed over a five-yard lead to Fobes. Fobes, passed by Dean of Penn, left Hallowell ten yards behind McNiff; the star miler closed the gap to a stride with a sprint over the last furlong. Cobb, only a stride behind Penn's veteran miler the entire distance, ceded second place to Martin of Cornell on the last lap. Sutermeister, in the vault, seemed unable to command his usual power.

With the possibility that Captain Munroe, whose sensational finish captured the mile event at last year's carnival may be back in the running, and that Dodge, Record, Estes, and Hallowell continue in Saturday's form, the Crimson can look forward with confidence to the Greater Boston Intercollegiates next week-end.
