SIX BOXERS WIN PLACES IN FINAL SPARRING BOUTS

Six new champions were crowned as a result of the semi-final and final rounds of the annual University boxing tournament, held last night in the New Indoor Athletic Building.

T. J. Curtin '34 won the 115-pound class, while Arthur Palaza '31 triumphed in the 125-pound class, and O. P. Ketchum '32 won in the 135-pound class. G. MacM. Ferguson 2G took first honors in the 145-pound class, with P. W. Hines '34 placing first in the 160-pound class. Both entrants in the 175-pound class withdrew, and D. D. Carrick 3L won the title in the unlimited class.

The program's biggest upset came when Hines defeated R. E. Torres 2G. Torres was defending champion in the 160-pound class and slated to win the title again this year, but the hard-hitting freshman got the decision after three rounds of fighting. In the next best bout D. D. Carrick successfully defended his title in the unlimited class against the assault of J. F. Schlafly 1L. The contest, while well-fought, was rather slow, and the fighters did not show the form which was expected of them.

The match between Ferguson and Ketchum '32 in the 145-pound class was probably the hardest-fought battle of the evening. In the earlier part of the contest Ketchum was getting the better of his opponent but Ferguson made a strong comeback to win the decision.

In the first encounter of the program Arthur Palaza battered G. C. Doyle '34 for two rounds until the bout was stopped. Since there were no other entrants in the 125-pound class, Palaza became champion by this victory. Ferguson won from F. P. Viviano 11, in the second about to gain the right to fight in the finals of the 145-pound class. Hines easily triumphed over E. M. Bullard 1G. B. to enter the final round of the 160-pound class in the third bout.

Encountering considerable opposition, Terres finally won from J. W. Bussey 21, and met Hines in the finals. G. R. Nawn '32, a runner-up last year and a champion the year before, fought an unsuccessful battle against Palaza for the right to enter the finals of the 145-pound class
