Army Matmen Down Crimson Grapplers 18 to 16

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Army defeated Harvard in a closely contested dual wrestling meet last Saturday at West Point, 18 to 16. That the two teams were evenly matched is indicated by the fact that each won four bouts, the Army squad gaining the margin of victory with three falls and only one decision to Harvard's two falls and two decisions.

In the 118-pound class, Momm and F. C. Evans '31 grappled stubbornly for over 15 minutes on virtually even terms before the former threw his Harvard adversary with a bar and chancery hold. Arthur Klein '32. Crimson 126-pounder displayed excellent form in pinning his rival, Adams, in 5 minutes 57 seconds. Speiser, the Army 135-pound representative, then retaliated by tossing J. H. Crandon '33 to the mat and pinning his shoulders in 7 minutes 32 seconds. P. O. Johnson '33 and O. E. Goddard '33 each scored on time decisions, the former defeating his Army opponent, M. L. Fisher, on a time advantage of 8 minutes 23 seconds in the 145-pound division, while the latter was victorious over Williams of Army in the 155-pound bout on a time advantage of 8 minutes 40 seconds.

R. R. Levin '32, Crimson grappler, and H. H. Fisher of Army had each other on the verge of a fall several times in their hard-fought light-heavy-weight battle before the Army man, breaking away from the half-Nelson Levin had clamped on him, tossed his Harvard opponent with a bar and chancery hold. In the final encounter, R. W. Straus '31, Harvard heavyweight, crushed his rival, Lincoln, to the mat in short order with another bar and chancery hold.
