UNIVERSITY CREW SENT OVER FOUR MILE COURSE

Seatings of the First and Second University crews remained unchanged yesterday afternoon as they took to the water. Coach Whiteside started the long campaign for the New London four-mile grind by sending his first two eights over that distance upstream from the Basin at a paddle.

The University boat appeared to be still recuperating from the shake-up effected Monday afternoon. Captain Dickey appearing out of place at bow with a long pull-through acquired from a season in the waist of the boat in contrast to the shorter stroke of the number two man, S. W. Swaim '31. J. M. Erickson '32 has accustomed himself to the number seven berth quickly, and seems to be well qualified to fulfill the responsibilities of that position.

This afternoon's practice concludes the University season on the Charles. The first and second eights will not row again until Monday morning, after arrival at Red Top. The third University crew entrains tomorrow evening with the 150-pound eight for the American Henley Regatta on the Schuylkill Saturday afternoon.

A race scheduled for yesterday afternoon between the two crews to be sent to Philadelphia was indefinitely postponed on account of the illness of J. M. Byrne '31. Instead the Third University crew rowed against time over an upstream mile-and-three-quarters course.

The Second Freshman eight, rowing yesterday against St. Mark's at Southboro, lost to the schoolboy oarsmen by three lengths.
