FENCERS SECOND IN NEW ENGLAND TOURNAMENT

Yale Trio Heads List in N. E. Division of Intercollegiates--Crimson to Send Three Men to Finals

In the field of five teams at the New England Tournament of the Intercollegiate Fencing Association held at the B. A. A. gymnasium on Saturday the University foils team finished second to a powerful Yale trio, qualifying with them for the finals to be held in New York City on April 17, 18, and 19. In addition three Crimson swordsmen qualified for the individual championships: B. B. Wesselman '31 and H. C. Cassidy '31 in foils, and R. B. Lawson '32 in sabre.

The powerful Eli fencers qualified five individuals and a team in epee, sabre, and foils. In New York City the University foilsmen will face the Yale team which won from them 6 to 3 on March 15, while Lawson will contend in the sabre with Canada and Ellis of Yale, and Fragiacomo of M. I. T.

Harvard 9, M. I. T. 0. Wesselman defeated Fragiacomo (MIT), 5-2; Kennedy (MIT), 5-0; and Shellard (MIT), 5-1. Cassidy defeated Fragiacomo (MIT), 5-0; Kennedy (MIT), 5-2; and Shellard (MIT), 5-0. J. D. Allen Jr. '31 defeated Fragiacomo (MIT), 5-0; Kennedy (MIT), 5-0; and Shellard (MIT), 5-4.

Yale 6, Harvard 3. Potter (Y) defeated Wesselman, 5-3; Cassidy, 5-1; and Allen, 5-2. Busby (Y) defeated Wesselman, 5-4; Cassidy, 5-3; and Allen, 5-4. Wesselman defeated Walker (Y) 5-3. Cassidy defeated Walker (Y), 5-1. Allen defeated Walker (Y), 5-1.

Harvard 8, Norwich 1. Wesselman defeated Pendo (N), 5-3; Batchelder (N), 5-3; and Jones (N), 5-2. Cassidy defeated Pendo (N), 5-2; Batchelder (N), 5-1; and Jones (N), 5-3. Allen defeated Batchelder (N), 5-2; and Jones (N), 5-4. Pendo (N) defeated Allen, 5-4.

Harvard 8. Dartmouth 1. Wesselman defeated Bruce (D), 5-0; Crosse (D), 5-1; and Newman (D), 5-3. Cassidy defeated Bruce (D), 5-2; Crosse (D), 5-2; and Newman (I), 5-3. Allen defeated Bruce (D), 5-1; and Crosse (D), 5-2. Newman (D) defeated Allen, 5-4.

Epee

Yale 3. Harvard 1. Hill (Y) defeated F. C. Fiechter Jr. '32, 1-0; and Wesselman, 1-0. Walker (Y) defeated Fiechter, 1-0. Wesselman defeated Walker (Y), 1-0.

M. I. T. defeated Harvard 3 to 1 in fence-off after 2-2 tie. Pentler (MIT) defeated Fiechter, 1-0; and Wesselman, 1-0. Shellard (MIT) defeated Wesselman, 1-0. Fiechter defeated Shellard (MIT), 1-0.

Sabre

Yale 3. Harvard 1. Canada (Y) defeated L. C. Winter '31, 5-1. Lawson defeated Canada (Y), 5-3. Ellis (Y) defeated Lawson, 5-1; and Winter, 5-2.

Harvard defeated Dartmouth on number of touches, matches being even. Newman (D) defeated Winter, 5-2; and Lawson, 5-2. Lawson defeated Wright (D), 5-3. Winter defeated Wright (D), 5-1.
