M. I. T. and Army Candidates Survive Preliminary Cut

Neither of the two Massachusetts candidates from Harvard were appointed candidates for Rhodes Scholarships in the New England district it was announced yesterday by Professor C. C. Brinton '19. Ten other men from the University, however, applied in other states, and their success or failure is not yet known.

The two men chosen from Massachusetts as candidates to the New England district are J. K. Berbert, of East Boston who is from West Point, and M. L. Shaffer, of Dorchester, who attends M. I. T.

These two men will compete later this week against two candidates from each of five other states in New England. From this group of 12 men. four will be awarded scholarships.
