The first major events of the Harvard Invitation Regatta will be run off this afternoon when a Freshman, a Sophomore and a Junior class crew race over the mile course in the Basin with Union Boat Club eight at 5.30 o'clock in the senior race for eights open to all crews. No other crews have been entered as yet, but when the shells line up at the start some more crews may have been entered during the course of the day.
Monday the third Freshman 150-pound crew carried off the medals for the senior lightweight event by defeating the second University 150-pound crew by one length, covering the upstream mile course in 5 minutes 28 seconds. The wherry trials were also rowed off on Monday.
Smith Crew Wins
Yesterday the Smith crew walked away with the final Freshman dormitory race over the mile course in the Basin. The 1932 ineligibles came in second, followed by Gore and two McKinlock crews. The winning Smith crew will race Middlesex School this afternoon.
In the finals of the wherry races H. C. Dickinson '32 and S. R. Howe '31 took first and second places respectively on the upstream half-mile course. E. A. Renner '30 and Morton Cole '29 captured the novice single event over the same distance, while Dickinson and P. C. Reardon '32 took the medals in the compromise race.
There has been a decided increase in this event which has been an annual fixture in the Harvard rowing season for the past few years. All of the events scheduled in the week's program have had a larger number of contestants than in any previous year with the wherry race drawing the greatest number of entrants.
