Illustrations Make an Interesting Collection

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

This week in the Memorial Room of Widener Library there is on exhibit a collection including many of the etchings of George Cruikshank:

In the assortment there are eight volumes containing illustrations of Cruikshank's political caricatures, which are, to all effects and purposes, of equal if not superior quality to those printed in present day newspapers.

On exhibit are many illustrations for the several parts of the "Life of Sir John Falstaff." With these are some of Cruikshank's well-known drawings, of which the ones of "Bluebeard," and "Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves" are notable.

A complete series of humorous little books and comic songs, written by an author whose identity has never been found out, was illustrated by George Cruikshank; this is now being shown, as is the illustrated copy of Watt's "Divine and Moral Songs", written in simplified language especially for the use of children.
