FINANCES HOUSE PLAN

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

E. S. Harkness, through whose generosity it is possible for the Harvard House Plan to become a reality, was born in Cleveland, Ohio, in 1874, and was graduated from Yale in 1897. Besides being a director of many railroads, he is trustee of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Presbyterian Hospital, the New York Publishing Library, and the Union Theological Seminary.

Mr. Harkness has been a benefactor of many institutions: he has given much to Yale; his donation of $1,000,000 four years ago established the school of Dramatic Art which called Professor George Pierce Baker '87 from Harvard to Yale to assume its leadership.

The land at Broadway and 168th Street, New York City, where the new Medical Center has been built with the alliance of the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Columbia University and the Presbyterian Hospital was a gift of Mr. Harkness.
