FIRST CREW HOLDS LIGHT WORKOUT IN FOUR MILE PADDLE

Red Top, Con., June 18--With only three days before the race with Yale Coach E. J. Brown '96, put the first University eight through light drills both in the morning and afternoon.

In Saturday's practice the first boat looked sluggish and the oarsmen weren't rowing well together. As a result, this morning, the first two boats only paddled down to the two mile mark and back with special attention being paid to the individual form of the men.

In the afternoon the first combination paddled over the full four miles at a very low stroke of about 23 or 24. The crew made the distance without a stop and then turned and rowed back without any let up, finishing at a stroke of 42. There will be no more time trials for any of the crews except the Freshmen, who may be tested over the two mile distance tomorrow.

The Combination crew, rowing up stream, had a time trial over the two mile course turning in a final time of 10 minutes 15 seconds.

In the Freshman boat, Lawrence Grinell Jr. '31, has replaced A. B. Rood '31 at No. 5 while Rood will fill Grinell's seat at No. 3 in the Combination outfit.

Coach Brown has decided to have the first crew use the Pocock shell given by John Watt's father in the race on Saturday. The conditions today were poor, with rough water, and a strong south westerly wind. It was very hot on the river.
