From New York city, that stronghold of Demon Rum and the despair of prohibitionists, there has been found an advocate of the cause of Carrie Nation and Andrew Volstead. The existence of this non-bootlegging citizen was revealed when a manager of a hotel in that city received a letter from a guest to the effect that a bellboy had refused to get him any refreshment more satisfactory than grape juice in spite of all inducements. Very emphatically, if a trifle ungrammatically, he replied: "Sorry, sir, I can't help you out in no way, shape or form." Fortunately the manager recognized virtue at its true worth and held a ceremony at which the youth was given a gold medal and several speeches of commendation.
The discovery of such a staunch adherent to the cause in the midst of an enemy city should encourage the drys greatly. But they had best remove the young hero from a position so fraught with dangers to his integrity. He can be sent to school in the virtuous Middle West and afterwards on a missionary tour to the hotel bellboys throughout the country. Who knows? He may even grow up to be President of the Anti-Saloon League!
