Three hundred and fifty men answered the first call for spring crew candidates yesterday when the first meetings were held in the Smith Halls Common Room. All men who intended to try for the University and Freshman crews were required to sign health and registration cards.
Captain John Watts, '28, Coach H. H. Haines, and Coach E. J. Brown '96 gave short talks on the work of the crew this spring, stressing the importance of keeping in good physical condition and in good academic standing. Dr. Edward Harding '10 spoke on how to keep in training.
The work for the crews will consists at first of rowing in the tank and on the machines. Most of the men will row only three times a week. In the morning from 10 until 1 o'clock individual instruction will be given any crew candidates who is in need of some special corrections.
A dinner in honor of the University crew which won over the Yale crew last June at New London will be given tonight at 7 o'clock at the Harvard Club of Boston. All members of the University are invited to attend the dinner, which will cost $2 per plate. Tickets may be obtained from R. F. Herrick '90, 1 Federal Street, Boston, or they may be had at the Harvard Club at the time of the dinner.
