Pricked is another bubble that the years had ballooned into a ripe and respected size. The legend surrounding Radcliffe's ivory towera and its bespectacled inmates must yield to the pressure of figures, cold, exact figures.
A survey, conceived we must believe, in a vengeful spirit, shows that Harvard men far from shunning their Cambridge neighbors, far from ignoring the fact of their existence, succumb in swathes at the first discreet mating call heard from them following Commencement.
It will be of little avail to take alarm at the statistics. If Radcliffe has over whelmed the sneers of a decade, and emerged from a chrysalis of contempt as the most alluring fata Morgana for several thousand potential bachelors, what use caution?
Fifty-three per cent of the marrying Alumnae of Radcliffe attract Harvard husbands. But five per cent of them reach out after M. I. T. men. This fact must be considered significant. Why should Harvard men be favored in such preponderance? The obvious answer is to be found in the superiority of the Coop and Widener Library as trysting places over the barren laboratories of the, Technological Institute.
It is affecting to think of the many difficulties the Radcliffe persistence has overcome. Romance must in the future gild the book-laden groups descried hurrying from remote lecture halls. They have been seen and yet have conquered.
