Squash activities this week will be marked by the participation of only two of the University teams in the Massachusetts Squash Racquets Association tournament and an extension in the opportunities for students to play on the University squash courts. Team A will journey to Newton Center Club, and Team B will meet the Harvard Club on the University courts in Cambridge. Team C and the Freshman players having no contests with any outside opponents, will meet in a game on the University courts.
This will be the third set of matches for the University teams in the association tournament, and team A which is still in second place in the class A series will have an opportunity to advance Harvard's standing to first place in the games today.
In anticipation of the matches today team A has been holding practice sessions in Newton Center on the courts on which it expects to play.
Beginning Monday night the squash courts in the Freshman Gymnasium will be open until 9.30 o'clock, and the old system of signing up will be done away with from 6.30 o'clock on, provided that the courts are not congested at that time.
With the opening of the University squash courts in the evenings, a great increase in the number of squash players is shown, an average of 300 a week now using the courts after supper. Some time ago the old system of signing up for these courts was abandoned, and a new method was introduced by D. J. Kelly Assistant Director of Physical Education. The new way enables undergraduates to sign up in the morning for half of the courts, and the remaining half is saved for student who can sign up only in the afternoon. This will be of benefit to graduate students who find it inconvenient to secure courts at 8 o'clock.
