YALE BASKETBALL TEAM SMOTHERED BY CRIMSON SHOTS

In a hard-played, fast game at the Hemenway Gymnasium Saturday night, the Harvard basketball team won a clean-cut victory over Yale by a 30 to 12 margin. The University players, in defeating Yale for the third successive year, displayed a decided superiority over their opponents. Their play was considerably better than the best they had shown in any game of their mediocre preliminary season.

Crimson Defense Strong

The feature of the game was the close guarding of the University team. The Blue players were able to score only twice from the floor, and both of these tallies came in the first half.

The play of the first period was fully as even and hard-fought as the experts had forecasted. The lead swayed from the Crimson to the Blue, and then back to the Crimson again, the period finally ending with Harvard leading 9 to 8. Both teams sought to keep up a strong defensive, relying for the offense on long shots.

Blue Trails in Second Half

When the second half opened, the furious attack of the University quintet over welcomed the hitherto strong Yale defense. Quick, accurate passing and deadly accuracy in basket shooting quickly ran up the Crimson total. Leekley and Dorn, fed by passes from the other members of the team, together accounted for five field goals. The Eli basketeers had but few opportunities to score and failed through poor shooting to convert any of these opportunities into points. Their total of four points for the period came from free throws. Goals from foul added seven points to the Harvard total.

Leekley and Dorn, with ten and six points each, starred in the Crimson offensive, while Barbee, Coombs, and Captain Malick all played excellent basketball to keep down the Blue score Billhardt was the strongest man on the losing team and was responsible for a third of his team's total.

Of the seven men to win their letters by playing in the game, only one, Barbee will be back next year.
