RESPONSE TO HARVARD FUND'S CALL GENEROUS

472 Men Contribute $16,488.50 During the Week--Many Records Are Broken Despite Late Appeal

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

The response to the letters sent by Class Agents and to former members of the graduate schools on March 15 has been immediate and gratifying, it was announced yesterday by the Harvard Fund Council.

During the week, 472 men contributed $16,488.50. Last year in the two best weeks of the Fund, both of which were in May, 415 men gave $10,579.50 during one, and 429 men $10,003.50 during the other. The Fund Council considers the showing made thus far this year by the Fund very encouraging in view of the fact that this year's letters were not mailed until Tuesday of last week.

Records Are Broken

The figures for the best individual day last week show 188 men who gave a total of $7,056.50. This is a distinct advance over the best single day in 1926, when $2,699.50 was contributed by 112 men. It is, in fact, an increase of 68 per cent, in the number of contributors, and an increase of 161 per cent, in the total amount contributed.

This year the Council is anxious that subscriptions to the Fund should be sent in before June 15 in order that a substantial total may be announced at Commencement.
