With the meeting in the Smith Halls Common Room at 6.30 o'clock tonight, the competition for the four Freshman Red Book departments will get under way. This is the biggest competition held this year for Freshmen and making the board is one of the high honors attainable by first year men.
Dean C. N. Greenough made the following statement to the committee: "Men who go out for the Red Book will have a pleasant errand which naturally extends their acquaintance among their classmates. Some of these acquaintances will become friends. Moreover, work for the Red Book is something done for the class, for undoubtedly a good Red Book helps to make a united class."
In talking with one of the Red Book staff Henry Pennypacker '88, chairman of the Committee on Admissions stated, "The Red Book is the only Freshman activity in which the entire class is interested, and it is the only lasting record of their Freshman year. I would advise every man who can do so to enter one of the Red Book competitions."
Previous experience is not necessary in any of these fields and there is an opportunity for every man to compete.
H. T. Holbrook '30, editor-in-chief, and H. W. Satterlee '30, associate editor-in-chief, as well as the heads of the different departments will speak.
All the competitions will be of the same length; the editorial men will do all the literary work. Two sub-chairmen and ten other candidates will be chosen in this department. The contestants will be judged upon the merits of the articles which they are asked to contribute. There will also be an opportunity for poets in writing the prologue and epilogue.
