The Harvard University Register has never been like the Freshman Red Book or the Senior Album, "a thing of beauty and a joy forever", with tooled leather covers, photographs of hundreds of fresh young faces, and a solace in boredom. There is little pleasure in looking up the numbers after the name of your friends to find how many knitted ties they are entitled to.

Nevertheless, there is no doubt but that its failure to appear this year has been a distinct inconvenience, and has discovered a distinct need for its appearance next year. The Student Council, however, did not feel justified in hiring a non-graduate to put out the Register, for such a scheme has never met with success.

The CRIMSON in undertaking to put out the Register for the Student Council next year believes it will be doing a definite service. The college alone is a big place, and it seems next to impossible to gain the simplest facts about one's next door neighbor, or about the most prominent organization without extensive and minute researches.

The question arises whether the Register should be limited in scope to the college or should, as heretofore, cover the activities of the whole University. The graduate schools have never shown enough interest in the Register to subscribe. On the other hand, the Register is run more for the sake of the information it contains than for the number of subscribers it will attract.

The CRIMSON is pleased to take advantage of the opportunity offered by the Student Council. We aim to make the most of the chance by putting out a complete and convenient Register at an earlier time and probably at a lower price than former issues. At the same time we will welcome any suggestions aiming to improve the publication.
