Modern music will be the topic discussed in a meeting of the Liberal Club tonight at 7 o'clock, open to all students of the University, and Wellesley and Radcliffe Colleges, when Randall Thompson '20, a member of the Wellesley Music Department faculty speaks on the modern French composer Georges Antheil. Professor W. E. Hocking '01, and Mrs. Hocking, will be the guests of the Club for the evening.

Thompson, who spent three years in the American Academy at Rome under the Walter Damrosch Prize de Rome after his graduation from Harvard, will discuss Ezra Pound's recent book on Antheil. The meeting will be thrown open for a general discussion of modern music following Thompson's address.

Antheil is the composer whose futuristic work the "Symphonie Mechanique" expressing modern industrial tendencies was presented by the New York Symphony Orchestra.

An airplane propeller in rapid motion, electric bells, and a large number of xylophones, were employed by Antheil together with the regular orchestra scoring. The production was not well received.

Thompson composed the music for the "Straw Hat," produced in New York last winter at the American Laboratory Theatre, and for the "Grand Street Follies," also produced in New York.
